Reconnecting with Someone who Interests You
Here are some examples of possible scenarios that could occur after requesting a contact via InMail
Scenario #1: The person has accepted your meeting request
This is the best case scenario, but also the least likely to happen. In this case, you goal has been reached.
Scenario #2: The person did not answer OR asks to know more
What not to do: Talk to them about yourself and the service you’re offering (that information is already available on your profile)
Their lack of response or their request to know more may come in the form of one of the questions below, for example:
“Who am I to you?”
“Have you taken the time to be interested in my problems?”
“Do you know what interests me?”
The goal is to answer these questions if you want to establish the relationship.

Reconnection InMail with a “Yes Question”
The reconnection InMail contains a “Yes Question” to which your contact will surely respond positively. The more relevant the Yes Question is, the more efficient reconnecting will be.
Example of an EFFECTIVE message
Hello Mr./Ms.,
I would like to thank you for accepting my contact request. I have noted based on your publications in the American Journal of Chemistry that you are currently studying the effects of quadrupole reactions of Aluminum in the Calcium Silicate Hydrate using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. Since I am working in the same field, perhaps we can discuss quadrupolar nuclei, which may also be of interest to you.
Best regards,

Example of an INEFFECTIVE message
Hello Mr./Ms.,
I would like to thank you for accepting my contact request. I noticed that you were a researcher at CEA. I would really like to have your opinion on the future of scientific research in chemistry, particularly where your work is concerned.
Best regards,
{SIGNATURE}
In this type of InMail, there needs to have been more research done about the person being contacted for their time and expertise.
